Review: Collection 2000 Lasting Colourgel Liner

Hey everyone,

I had a bit of a splurge on Superdrug's website and my parcel has arrived! I was so excited to test out all the goodies that were inside, so you will be seeing lots of reviews over the next few weeks.

The first of which is going to be the drugstore brand Collection 2000's new Colourgel eyeliner. I have always used liquid liner and have been quite taken with their pen liner recently as a handy make-up bag staple, so when I saw this online I thought I would give it go.

At a price of £4.99 it is definitely a lot cheaper than other gel liners on the market, with MAC's blacktrack fluid line costing £14 I wondered if the cheaper price would reflect the quality but I have to admit I have been pleasantly surprised.

It comes neatly packaged in a small glass screw top jar, containing roughly 2.5g (the box jar doesn't actually tell you the weight but have worked it out approximately from the price). It is a very matt black, no shimmer, no glitter.

A very simple jar but it does the job

First I tested it on my hand by painting a simple line with my fine eyeliner brush and was very impressed at how quickly it dried to a smudge proof finish. Even a make-up remover wipe took a bit of scrubbing to get it off. I then used it while I was testing my new Avon quad eyeshadow palettes and was again very impressed by the consistency, the smooth application and the long-lasting smudge-proof finish. I even used it in my waterline and it didn't budge!

Left line is using the collection 2000 brush
Right is the Louise Young fine liner brush

The only downside to this eyeliner is the brush that gets supplied with it. It bristles are too thick and the handle is too small. It makes the brush very difficult to hold and fine line work near impossible so I would recommend using a different fine liner brush (Louise Young Superfine Liner is a great example) but for the price of the you pay I think that the gel liner itself more than makes up for the not-so-good brush.

The brush supplied is slightly round and too wide for doing fine line work
It needed to be an flat angled brush instead

All in all this is a very good substitute for more expensive Gel eyeliners and I think I will definitely be going back to get the other 3 colours, the usual brown and the more experimental Teal and Gold.

See you soon

Love Jude
