Day 8: Models Own Wonderland Collection

Hello everyone,

Its Day 8 of Blog-tober and today I want to show you Model's Own's latest release. Only a few weeks after they released their gorgeous Mirrorball collection, they followed it with their Christmas collection for 2012, lovingly named "Wonderland".

As you can imagine when Model's own posted the above image on Facebook, announcing that their new collection was avaliable from Boots stores nationwide. So I ran out to my local store and to my delight there they were in all their glory, and to make things even better Boots had a 3 for 2 offer on all their cosmetics! So I decided to get 4 of the colours from this collection plus another polish I hadn't seen before from last years christmas collection and to for 6th item I picked up another model's own nail art pen in silver (I already have the white and black and they are awesome!).

Today though I just want to show you the wonderland polishes as I have plan to do another blog just on last years collection, now that I have them all. So here are the 4 polishes that I picked from the new Wonderland Collection:

L-R: Jack Frost, Northern Lights, Snowflakes, Southern Nights
Now to show you in a bit more details, starting with the two holographic colour polishes:

Model's Own - Northern Lights

Northern Lights Swatch - Two coats (no topcoat)
Northern Lights is a very, very sparkly holographic pink glitter polish. The base is clear and it is packed full with fine pale pink glitter and fine holographic glitter, which sparkle so much. These photos don't do it justice as to just how sparkly this is and I think its going to look amazing for Christmas parties!

Model's Own - Southern Lights

Southern Lights - Two coats (no topcoat)
Like its sister polish Southern Lights is beautifully full of sparkle, this time with a purple hue. Its a very pale lilac more than a purple but definitely not as silver as it is coming up in my photos. This is again going to be a great colour for the party season, whether as a topcoat over or as a colour by itself.

The next two colours are defiantly meant as overcoats, for other colours  They are packed full of sparkle but would take over 4 coats to make them opaque as a polish on their own.

Model's Own: Jack Frost

This polish is a cloudy coloured base, by which I mean: its not clear but its not coloured either. Its full of iridescent glitter which switches between deep blue, teal, green, pink and violet. I'm not sure where the yellow is coming from in my photos by it definitely not visible in real life. Its a beautiful duo-glitter that changes colours in the light.

Model's Own - Snowflakes

Snowflakes - two coats (no topcoat)
Snowflakes is not what is traditionally called a glitter polish as it doesn't contain traditional glitter. Instead this clear base polish contains random cut up pieces of duo-chrome iridescent material. Unlike the silvery/blue colours of Jack Frost, this polish contains more gold/yellow tones, with hints of red, pink, purple and green. It is quite difficult to get completely flat on the nail and I have had several pieces stick up and dry quite sharp.  This polish is also alot more sparse than the others so it is a case of placing the glitter rather than just painting them on.  All that being said I think this is a gorgeous polish which is going to glam up many different plain colours I have in my collection.

The 5th colour in the collection is called "Blizzard" and is a mixed silver holographic polish in a clear base. The reason I decided not to get this polish is because I already have a lot of clear silver holographic polish from Nails Inc, Barry M and many others, so I chose to get a different colour which I didn't have duplicates of instead. But that is not to say  Blizzard is not a gorgeous colour because it is, I just happen to have a lot that are very similar.

Overall I am really happy with this beautiful winter collection from Model's Own it is going to make my winter evenings that much better when I can give myself some beautiful sparkly nails. So i suggest while the offer is still on at Boots that you get yourselves down there and check them out.

If you have already managed to get your hands on these polishes, let me know what you think in the comments below.

Love

Day 5: Model's Own - Boogie Nights

Hi everyone,

Today was a big day for the world of "Jude's addiction" as I started a Facebook page to help to try and let more people know about my blog and "BLOG-TOBER!".

If you want to check it out click here, and if you click the "like" button you will get up to date information about what I'm up to and what I'm reviewing next. So go do it now, then come back and check out the gorgeous new nail design I have created using one of the polishes from Model's Own Mirrorball collection.

Model's Own - Boogie Nights over China Glaze Gothic Lolita
I ordered the Mirrorball collection as as soon as it became available on the Model's Own website and I'm glad I did as within a few days it sold out and the website says it won't be in stock again until the end of October. the parcel arrived within a couple of days and I can safely says I was very impressed with the colours!

Today I want to talk to you about the purple in the collection which is called "Boogie Nights". All the colours have names related to disco dancing which I really like as the collection defintley reminds me of all the glitter and glam of an 60's discotheque (or how I imagine they were like, as I am obviously far to young to remember them! lol)

All of the polishes come with coloured mirror lids which just gives them that extra WOW factor, and makes the polish look even sparklier (if that's possible?!) and the 14ml size means you would have to use these polishes alot to use them all up too quickly.

The polish inside the bottle is a clear base with several different types and colours of glitter inside. Large and small hexagons of fuchsia pink, large hexagons of deep blue, small lilac hexagons and random cuts of purple holographic  All these come together to make a deep rich glitter which has dimension and lots of sparkle.

The swatches above are 3 coats and as you can see are not quite opaque, however i think these are definatley meant to be layered as a topcoat rather than worn alone, as a colour underneath just sets the glitter off beautifully. The great thing about having all the differnet colour glitters in there also means that you can layer it over loads of different colours, meaning you will use these again and again.

The only flaw I can find is that that the polish doesn't lay very flat on the nail, and even after applying top coat I have shards of the holo glitter sticking up and scratching me. But a couple more layers of topcoat and a bit more precision when applying and I think this problem could be avoided.

I decided to use a gradiated layer of Boogie nights over the top of China Glaze's Gothic Lolita, which is a lavender pink/purple with a blue shimmer so complimented Boogie Nights perfectly. I used two coats of Boogie Nights on the tips of my nails using only one toward the middle and leaving the beds free from glitter.

Gothic Lolita is from China Glaze's Electro Pop collection

So what do you think? Have you managed to get hold of the Mirrorball collection yet? What do you like to layer underneath Boogie Nights? Let me know in the comments below.

See you tommorrow for more from Blog-tober.

Welcome to my world!

Hello everyone/anyone who finds this little part of the internet I like to call Jude's addiction,

I'm Jude, I am currently 23 years old and living in not so sunny England. I have been wanting to start a blog for ages but never thought anyone would want to read my ramblings. However I decided even if I am the only one who reads them, its a good way to keep all my thoughts and memories together.

Anyway enough about me, my blog promises to have all things bright, colourful and sparkly so start off I thought I would tell you about this fab nail polish I am currently sporting. Its called Purple Haze and its by Model's Own. They are a little British company that create fabulous make-up but they are most well known for their glitter nail polishes. I have several of them now and will be showing you my collection later, but this colour is so fabulous I just had to show you it on its own.
Models Own - Purple Haze (No Flash)
Isn't it just gorgeous? They have just packed this polish with so much of what I would call true or royal purple glitter that my nails have only 2 coats on and they are opaque! As I took closer and closer shots of my manicure I noticed that there is also tiny flecks of blue and pink glitter in there too, but not enough to distract from the amazing purple colour.

Here is a close up of my nails so you can see what i'm talking about:
Please excuse the horrid state of my cuticles!
Model's Own make-up and polishes can be found in most Boots stores in the UK or on their website.  They are all really well priced at just £5 each or if you just can't decide which colours to get they do great boxsets with six polishes for just £20 = BARGAIN!!!  I have ordered several times from their website and have found them great to deal with, for orders under £99 the postage is only £2.95. This is a great delivery price considering you could get nearly 30 polishes delivered (if you got 5 boxsets) and still only pay £2.95 postage! Their delivery time is also very quick, I waited only 2 days from ordering before getting one of my parcels! They come superbly packaged in cute little boxes and I have not had one arrive damaged or leaking. Bascially an awesome service with great products!

This manicure has so far lasted about 3 days with only one coat of topcoat (I use Nails Inc. Kensington Caviar base and top coat, I will be reviewing these soon) but has now started to chip so as I am going to a birthday BBQ this afternoon, I may well change this polish for something just as bright and colourful. I'll let you know tomorrow what my decision is!

Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed my first post.

Love Jude
